“I took on this role as Regional Co-ordinator for Action for Market Towns just over a month ago. It has been a stimulating first month as I have started to plan how I will work with market towns across the region, drawing on my connections with AMT and with Yorkshire Forward’s Renaissance Market Towns Programme. I hope that together we will be able to help all the market towns in this region, to face the challenges of the future, recognizing the importance of all the factors that make our communities sustainable.

In my career to date, I have lived and worked in a number of countries facing different challenges. My experience has mostly been focused on economic and community issues, typically in a rural context. I have also had the opportunity of engaging with most elements of sustainable communities to some degree, whether through appraising projects, linking activities across management teams or via a programme advisory role.

Over the last two and a half years as a member of my local Renaissance Market Town Steering Group, I have had the experience of looking at how we can ensure that Marsden and Slaithwaite will still be sustainable communities in 25 years time.

Developing the role of the Yorkshire and Humber Market Towns Network will give us the opportunity to share good practice within the region and also draw on experience from outside. I also see the opportunity to promote links between market towns, where practical alliances may assist in the development of initiatives and the delivery of services.

I look forward to engaging with you and drawing on your ideas and experience to support the development of market towns across Yorkshire and Humber.”
